PSTET 2026 COMPLETE DETAILS: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Punjab has outlined the specific eligibility rules for the upcoming Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) 2026. The criteria differ depending on whether you intend to teach Classes 1-5 (Paper-I) or Classes 6-8 (Paper-II).
Important Note: You can apply for both papers if you possess the required educational qualifications for both levels.
The candidates are advised to submit application form and pay application fee for appearing in PSTET-2025 Test well in time before last date i.e.20.02.2026 to avoid any network related issue or last minute rush .

1. General Eligibility (For Everyone)
- Nationality: You must be a citizen of India to apply.
- Age Limit: There is no minimum or maximum age limit prescribed for taking the PSTET exam itself.
- “Pursuing” Candidates: If you are in the final year of your Teacher Training Course (like D.El.Ed or B.Ed), you are eligible to apply.
2. Paper-I Eligibility (Primary Teacher)
For teaching Classes 1 to 5 You generally need Senior Secondary (12th Class) with at least 50% marks plus one of the following professional qualifications:
- D.El.Ed: Passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- B.El.Ed: Passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education.
- D.Ed (Special Education): Passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- Graduation + B.Ed: Some notifications list candidates with Graduation (50%) and B.Ed as eligible, provided they complete a 6-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education within two years of appointment.
- Note: Recent Supreme Court rulings have affected B.Ed eligibility for Primary levels in many states; candidates should check the official notification’s specific clause on this carefully.
3. Paper-II Eligibility (Upper Primary Teacher)
For teaching Classes 6 to 8 You generally need Graduation (in any stream) plus one of the following professional qualifications:
- D.El.Ed: Graduation and passed/appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- B.Ed: Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in a 1-year or 2-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
- B.Ed (Special Education): Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in B.Ed (Special Education).
- 12th + 4-Year Course: Senior Secondary (50% marks) and passed/appearing in the final year of B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.
4. Minimum Qualifying Marks
To pass PSTET and get the certificate, you need to score:
- General Category: 60% (90 out of 150 marks).
- Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC/Differently Abled): 55% (82 out of 150 marks).

- Social Studies/Social Science Teacher:
- History: Earliest societies, First Cities/Farmers, New Ideas, First Empire, Sultans of Delhi, Architecture, Revolt of 1857, Nationalist Movement, India after Independence.
- Geography: Planet Earth, Globe, Environment (Air, Water), Human Environment, Agriculture, Resources.
- Social & Political Life: Diversity, Government (Local/State), Democracy, Constitution, Judiciary, Social Justice.
